چکیده

ABSTRACT The North American Nanohertz Observatory for Gravitational Waves (NANOGrav) recently reported evidence the presence of a common stochastic signal across their array pulsars. origin this is still unclear. One possibility that it due to gravitational-wave background (SGWB) in ?1–10 nHz frequency region. Taking NANOGrav observational result at face value, we show would be fully consistent with an SGWB produced by unresolved population in-spiralling massive black hole binaries (MBHBs) predicted current theoretical models. Considering astrophysically agnostic model, MBHB merger rate loosely constrained. Including additional constraints from galaxy pairing fraction and MBH–bulge scaling relations, find ${1.2\times 10^{-5}}{\rm -}{4.5\times 10^{-4}}\, \mathrm{Mpc}^{-3}\, \mathrm{Gyr}^{-1}$ , time-scale $\le 2.7\, \mathrm{Gyr}$, norm MBH?Mbulge relation $\ge 1.2\times 10^{8}\, {\rm M}_\odot$ (all quoted 90 per cent credible intervals). Regardless astrophysical details assembly, imply sufficiently large holes pair up, form merge within Hubble time.

Massive Black Hole Binary Evolution

Coalescence of binary supermassive black holes (SBHs) would constitute the strongest sources of gravitational waves to be observed by LISA. While the formation of binary SBHs during galaxy mergers is almost inevitable, coalescence requires that the separation between binary components first drop by a few orders of magnitude, due presumably to interactions of the binary with stars and gas in a g...

Binary Dynamics near a Massive Black Hole

We analyze the dynamical evolution of binary stars that interact with a static background of single stars in the environment of a massive black hole (MBH). All stars are considered to be single mass, Newtonian point particles. We follow the evolution of the energy E and angular momentum J of the center of mass of the binaries with respect to the MBH, as well as their internal semi-major axis a,...

Galactic Black Hole Binary Systems

I review observations of the X–ray spectra of Galactic Black Hole Candidates, and theoretical ideas as to how these can be produced. X–ray reflection should enable different source geometries to be distinguished, but the ionisation instability of X–ray irradiated material in hydrostatic equilibrium gives rise to large ambiguities in interpretation. It is not currently possible to determine whet...

A new mechanism for massive binary black hole coalescences

Massive binary black holes (BBHs) are inevitably formed in the merged galactic nuclei before the black holes finally merge by emitting the gravitational radiation. However, it is still unknown how a massive BBH evolves after its semi-major axis reached to the sub-parsec/parsec scale where the dynamical friction with the neighboring stars is ineffective (the so-called the final parsec problem). ...
